This blog is for two kinds of people: those who have been reading my work and are familiar with who I am. It is also for those who are brand new and have no idea what this website is all about. No matter which one you are, this blog is for you! I’m going to explain why my passion for Independent Field Research is going to be something truly special for every animal and wildlife lover.
But before I get to the big announcement, let me share a bit of my journey. This way you can understand exactly why I am so excited for what’s coming next.
From Inspiration to Action: How Maya Higa and Alveus Sparked My Journey
There is an inside joke here that Maya Higa from Alveus is my childhood hero—even though I am a decade older than her! However, there is a lot of truth to her being a role model. She is also a major driving force behind what my company has become.
I have my own story and motivations that brought me here; I’m not just trying to replicate what she does. In many ways, our work is very different. She is saving animals through hands-on wildlife conservation at a sanctuary. On the other hand, I am an independent field researcher documenting the world through this blog and my various interests.
What makes her a hero to me is how similar our paths actually are. She didn’t follow a traditional educational route. Like me, she combined her unique hobbies and personal interests with a deep love for animals. She carved out her own path in a non-traditional way. That’s what makes Alveus so unique. She used that passion as fuel to further her education. As a result, she can help animals and give them a voice.
Differences aside, we are similar in the ways that matter: we both want to change the world, and we both want to educate while having fun. We are doing what we love on our own terms—and to me, that is the very definition of success.
The Professional Shift: From Casual Observations to Scientific Field Research
At the end of the day, I call myself an independent field researcher. As some of you may know, my work is quite casual; those who aren’t familiar with me might even think this is just a regular news or gossip blog—which is totally fine! I talk about all my favorite things, but I use them as ‘field research’ because I never want anyone to feel like they’re reading a university essay.
I want my education to be accessible to the masses. I also just don’t like talking in an academic way. Even though I take online courses almost daily, I’ve realized that I want to write exactly the same way I would talk to someone in person.
In real life, I’m not talking about how ‘the cryospheric transformation observed within the Anthropocene epoch suggests a glacial shift characterized by a non-linear thermodynamic trajectory.’ I’m just going to be like, ‘Yeah… glaciers are wild, huh?!’
However, my big announcement is that very soon, I will be doing much more traditional wildlife research!
From Observation to Analysis: The Tools and Training Behind My Research
The reason I started this company is that I have always loved studying—literally every single day. Now, I am narrowing my focus to take my field research to the next level.
I am currently working toward several certificates from the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, studying all types of birds. I’m also enrolled in a Master Naturalist certification course at Lakehead University. Additionally, I am taking a Herpetology certification course at the Amphibian Foundation. And I’m tackling a nearly 700-page University-level book on zoology.
Guys, I can’t even begin to tell you how much is happening in such a short time. It has only been about a week since I started taking all these courses simultaneously. But the knowledge I’ve gained already is insane. It’s the kind of information that stays with you forever.
Since my business is still fairly new—we only launched about a month ago—this will be a slow, steady process. One of my big goals is to buy a high-quality microscope so I can observe wildlife in much greater detail. Ideally, I’ll get one with a great camera attached.
There is also a ton of other equipment I’m looking forward to adding to my toolkit, like professional-grade binoculars, to further my research.
The Future of the Comfy Chaos Collective: A New Era of Wildlife Research
This is why subscriptions are very important for what I do here. Your money is never needed but always appreciated! I’ll never be one of the people that begs for money or gets mad because not enough people are giving.
I intentionally kept ads off my site because my top priority is free education. The paid subscriptions are bonus to those who want to further support me and help my research directly! If I really want to suck money from you I’d throw ads all over the place just like most blog websites. I did sign up for affiliate links but I haven’t even used those yet. I promise I’ll only use those when it really matters to me and for things that I think you guys will genuinely appreciate!
Lastly, thank you to those who have supported me so far and I look forward to many new adventures. There are many more amazing moments to come that I hope you will stick around for. I want to climb a mountain and document that. I want to reach out to businesses and do field research in person. This way I can legally take photos inside of establishments and not worry about legal stuff.
There are infinite ideas I have for future research. Keep in mind, my website is still a baby. For now it’s just been me chilling at home but we WILL be going out into the world and doing field research soon. Once all my education is done and I have more free time, it will get much easier for me to plan travel adventures!
