Sure, I could pump out a blog every day, or maybe even two, like most websites out there. But I want my work to mean something. Good ideas take time.

What makes this book special is that all the poems tell a single story of a woman named Bridget and her transformation.

It is more than just a random collection of poems; it is a chronological narrative that follows her struggle between healing and surrender as she allows herself to unravel. By the final page, the reader has witnessed the birth of someone entirely different from the woman they first met.

Tracing the Spiral: The Creative Process Behind Bridget’s Story

The vision I had was to tell a story of someone’s unraveling. I created Bridget because she embodies the tension between who we are and who we choose to become. We all wear masks. We all present versions of ourselves to the world. But what happens when the mask begins to slip?

That question became the foundation of her story.

It starts in the familiar territory of ordinary life, but slowly drifts into darker places as Bridget is forced to confront the parts of herself she would rather ignore. Throughout the book, she is faced with a choice: heal, or let go. Fight for the person she once was, or surrender to the person she is becoming.

What makes Bridget unsettling is that she is not some distant monster. She is familiar. She talks like your neighbor, looks like your friends, and wants many of the same things that everyone else wants. Yet beneath the surface, something is changing.

Is she a woman who simply wants to belong? Or is she becoming something else entirely?

What Writing My First Book Taught Me

Writing an emotional story that brings a character and her personal journey to life is something special.

I do have plans to write books in the future that are more traditional and serve as extensions of the field research I conduct here. I plan to create a series of guidebooks covering a variety of topics.

Bridget was the last remaining part of the old me—that actor and screenwriter side that had been buried deep beneath all my research.

Even though this poetry book was a one-off, I am proud of it. Bridget’s story has been told, and she will forever be a part of me.
